Recife,
the capital of Pernam-buco, is an excellent gateway
to Brazil's
north eastern caribbean-like beaches. There are non
stop flight from Europe and Miami, although the cheapest
options are generally
through Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Spend
one day here for Recife and another to experience Olinda!
Recife
became rich through the Sugar boom of the 1700 and 1800's
and many colonial buildings and superb baroque churches remain
as testimony of it's glorious past. Recife's down town area
and port have recently been renovated and are now worth at
least a day's exploration. And Olinda alone is a highlight,
a reason for many to come to Brazil at all.
